More information on how we are building a more resilient business is available in the Places to Thrive section of our 2023 GID Responsible Investment Report.
Resilience
Places to Thrive
We strive to evolve our ESG strategy to embrace our growth, the complex externalities we face, the changing needs of our stakeholders, and the challenges we are likely to encounter.
Risk Management
Our commitment to protecting against bribery, corruption, child labor, excessive executive compensation, forced labor, and workers' rights ensures a responsible and inclusive approach.
Adhering to Building Performance Standards
Building Performance Standards (BPS) aim to reduce the carbon impact of the built environment. By implementing BPS, we actively contribute to the energy and carbon-reduction goals of the states and local governments in areas where we operate — along with our own goals and 10-year environmental targets.
Resilience Risk Assessments
We conduct resilience assessments for our current assets. These comprehensive analyses provide valuable insights into the potential physical, social, and transitional hazards that could impact our properties and their occupants. Moving forward, we will conduct these assessments every three years to ensure we stay ahead of any challenges.
ESG Due Diligence for New Acquisitions
We conduct due diligence on new assets using a detailed checklist that covers various ESG factors. Assessors evaluate the current condition of the buildings and conduct a desktop review of potential climate-related hazards.
Several different factors are considered including walk, bike, and transit scores, HVAC system characteristics, ENERGY STAR-certified appliances, plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems, and types of light fixtures and lighting controls. All these findings are carefully reviewed by our Investment Committee.
